Here’s how you reinvigorate a town suffering from doughnut fatigue: You take those oversized glucose bombs and shrink ’em, Mike Teavee-style, into bite-sized, poppable morsels. In truth, Willy Wonka would probably approve of everything that’s going on at the newish Northeast sweets shop Sleepy V’s. Take the ever-changing, off-the-wall flavors—no snozzberry that we’ve seen, but there’s been a Sioux City Sarsaparilla with chocolate flakes and a Maraschino cherry, plus a caramelized, dulce de leche-stuffed crème brûlée doughnut you crack with a spoon as though it were the real thing. That bad boy is among the shop’s newer, full-sized sweets, but if you go in for the teeny ones, there’s another added benefit. You can eat, like, five. At least.
