Admittedly, the “anchor” department stores in the mall’s four corners remain unchanged since its opening some 26 years ago. But in the Bloomington shopping mecca’s upper floors, changes are afoot. In December, the mall’s fourth story was hijacked by Smaaash, a games/food/drinks adventure park, for the family that go-karts together. Looking for a little more collaboration? The third floor of MOA will soon be opening an Escape Room, the popular experiential game where teams attempt to break out of simulated experiences of being trapped inside themed rooms. Don’t feel like doing a damn thing? This fall, the mall will reopen its cinema with 14 big-ass theaters operated by CMX. Expect lounge chairs, upgraded food, mixed drinks, and lots of parents relieved to duck into a dark place where you’re supposed to be quiet.
